John Carter of Mars – Adventures on The Dying World of Barsoom

John Carter of Mars – Adventures on The Dying World of Barsoom is a planetary romance tabletop role-playing game, created by Modiphius Entertainment under license and with the cooperation of the estate of Edgar Rice Burroughs, author of the original Barsoom novels. The game is currently being funded through Kickstarter.

Any fan of Edgar Rice Burroughs knows the story about John Carter and his adventures on Barsoom, especially since the release of a film based on Burrough’s Barsoom novels. John Carter of Mars – Adventures on The Dying World of Barsoom is a tabletop RPG, where you can assume the role of various adventurers and heroes on the spectacular and unique world of Barsoom. You can choose to play as John Carter, princess Dejah Thoris or create your own hero, using the ruleset the comes with the game.

This game uses a pulp action inspired narrative variant of Modiphius’ 2d20 system, Momentum, which is a streamlined version of the 2d20 system that many roleplayers are familiar with from games like Conan, Infinity, Mutant Chronicles and Star Trek Adventures. It focuses entirely on the abilities of the characters you play by allowing characters to build talents out of whole cloth and eschewing granular details that just aren’t important in describing the ultra-competent characters of Barsoom. Kickstart John Carter of Mars

With only a few days left, the Kickstarter campaign for John Carter of Mars – Adventures on The Dying World of Barsoom has over 1600 backers and has reached its goal almost tenfold! The campaign has therefore reached many stretch goals, which only means more goodies for us!

This is something that looks really interesting, especially the starter set and the Swords of Mars.

Since the game is due to be delivered in July this year I guess that I have ample time to read up on the Barsoom novels.
