Warhammer 40K: New RPG in the making

Games Workshop, who recently published the 8. version of the popular tabletop strategy wargame Warhammer 40.000, has announced that a new version of Warhammer 40K roleplaying game is in the making.

A new Warhammer 40,000 roleplaying game is coming – soon, you’ll be able to dive into the 41st Millennium in Wrath & Glory. Tabletop roleplaying is a very different experience from wargaming – rather than commanding your forces from above, you’ll be able to inhabit characters of your own design in imaginative collaborative storytelling.

Wrath & Glory is currently in development at Ulisses North America, an experienced designer and publisher of several popular roleplaying games. We can’t reveal anything more at this point, but watch this space for updates and news, and get ready for your own adventures in the 41st Millennium.

Ulisses North America is  is the English-language division of Ulisses Spiele, Germany’s premiere RPG translator and publisher of Das Schwarze Auge, the classic German fantasy RPG. Ulisses has published roleplaying games like The Dark Eye and it’s studio director is Timothy Brown, who many D&D fans might recognise as he was Director of Creative Services at TSR supervising the best of the AD&D game worlds, including Ravenloft and Planescape.

It will be interesting to see how this new version will play out. There have been a few Warhammer 40K Roleplaying games, published by Black Libraries and later Fantasy Flight, that have used the same mechanics as Warhammer Fantasy Roleplaying games. In this announcement there’s nothing about any such relation, so maybe we’ll see a totally new system, created solely for the grim and dark future of Warhammer 40K.

  • That's awesome news! I hope they decide to revamp the system. Although I'm a huge fan of the 40k universe, the system used in the FFG games was too clunky to use. It seemed that they were hell bent on tieing it to the miniatures game too much.
